When is the best time to remodel your bathroom? Summer. Why? Read on to find out.
You can take showers at the pool. When your bathroom is little more than a crushed heap of 1950s pink ceramic tile, it’s hard to get clean in there. Bathroom remodels take time. Luckily, most people have second and even third bathrooms in their homes, but not everyone has another tub or shower. Many people belong to a gym and can use those facilities when their own are out of commission, but not everyone belongs to a gym, and no 5-year-olds do, so the perfect place for the family to get clean is at the local pool. Bring pajamas for the kids and then take them home and put them right to bed at the end of the evening.
Mold and mildew are growing apace. Summer can be a damp, sticky season. If you have an old bathroom, especially one without an exhaust fan, that moisture is building up in all the nooks and crannies. If you have any cracks or holes in the grout or tile, these become an ideal place for mold and mildew to take up residence. Now’s the time to rip it all out and get a solid bathtub surround, or new tile and grout.
The family is less rushed. The kids are out of school, so they won’t be up at 7 a.m. trying to brush their teeth while the tile guy is in yourbathroom up to his elbows in grout. You and your spouse may have time off from work, or your family might even go away on vacation for a week or two. Depending on what you have planned for your bathroom, this could be enough time to finish the project — or at least enough of it for you to be able to use parts of your bathroom. What could be greater than leaving on vacation and returning home to the bathroom of your dreams?
You’ll waste less energy. You may think when you get your electric bill that your AC is just as expensive as your heat, but it isn’t really true. Various sources put heating costs anywhere from two to four times as much as cooling costs. So when workmen are traipsing in and out of your home all day, and when electrical cords snake through all the doors and windows, you can rest assured that the great outdoors is not siphoning all the green out of your wallet.
