Does Your Bathroom Need an Upgrade?

June 30, 2017

A bathroom upgrade might be what you want if you’re not ready for a major remodeling job.

Many homeowners grow tired of their old, outdated bathrooms, but they may still be in good shape. Some bathrooms have discolored tubs, cracked tiles or vanities that have seen better days. If the whole bathroom is a mess, it’s easy enough to make the decision to remodel.

According to homeadvisor.com, the average cost of a bathroom remodel is $9,395. This fluctuates, depending on where you live and how much work you want to have done.

But what if you’re careful and tidy, and the bathroom you put in 20 years ago is still pristine, just kind of out of style?

What you need is a bathroom upgrade.

New Sink

One of the easiest ways to bring your bathroom into this century is by installing a vessel or pedestal sink. Pedestal sinks aren’t exactly new, but they’re still popular, and they’ll look a whole lot better in your bathroom than an old vanity. A vessel sink looks beautiful in magazines and in the restrooms of fancy restaurants, and it will look great in your bathroom too, but only if it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb.

Shower Doors

Another way to dress up your old bathroom is to get rid of the shower curtain and install shower doors. We know, you got rid of the shower doors during the last remodel. But today’s shower doors are different! They’re not on tracks that double as repositories for bacteria and soap scum — they’re frameless. You could ditch the tub at the same time and get a whole new look. This would likely necessitate re-tiling as well, so consider that when you’re trying to decide what to do.

New Faucets

A popular, easy bathroom upgrade is new faucets. After a few years, faucets are hard to get clean. They’re metal, and they’re always wet, so chemicals from hard water or even rust may begin to build up and cause discoloration. New sink and tub faucets don’t cost too much, and they’ll bring that shine back into your bathroom.

Medicine Cabinets and Tile

Another quick and easy bathroom upgrade is installing new medicine cabinets. Get rid of the light wood, and go with white or frameless glass.

Re-tiling the floor is also a great way to bring your bathroom up to date. No more gold — choose a nice, modern gray or white.
